Hayward Aqua-Rite In-Ground Chlorine Generator - up to 40K Gallons Review

Met my expectations although have to run at 100% output in 100 degree weather for a 21,000 gallons swimming pool.Probably this can be expected in Texas.Previously had a Clearwater Zodiac rated for 25,000 gallons and it didn't come close to furnishing enough chlorine during the summer.
Very good diagnostic features showing chlorine generation, voltage and current at geneator and salt in ppm.
I would recommend this generator.

Hayward SP71621 Pro Series Vari-Flo Top-Mount Control Valve, Black Review

I'm looking for a Hayward SP071621 Vari-flo valve that will fit an older Hayward S310T Sand Filter.

Everything reads TOP MOUNTED for this product, but the pictures show a side mounted unit.

I'll have to go somewhere else to buy since the picture shwos something different than what I'm looking for.

I'm 99% sure that the SP071621 valve is the top mounted one that fits the S310T filter....

but the picture scared me off.

Hayward Phantom Pressure Cleaner Review

I bought this thing 7 months ago & it doesn't clean the pool. It's hard pipe design, doesn't let it get around in the middle of the pool & also gets itself tangled into knots. The pipe just came apart in the pool yesterday, so now I have to go buy a new pool cleaner. Very expensive product that doesn't work at all!!!!

We purchased our home a few years ago and absolutely loved the pool.It's not a large pool, but mid-sized kidney shaped, and is perfect for our family.This love affair soon became strained with all of the cleaning, checking of chemicals, and other assorted tasks that pool builders never tell you about.Just the vacuuming of the pool took a several hours each week.

After a couple of months, my husband and I decided to look into an automatic pool cleaner.We did extensive research and decided on the KREEPY KRAULY for our pool.With the decision made, it was only a matter of purchasing it and setting it up.Most pool supply stores can order this if they do not have it in stock, so it's readily available.

The KREEPY KRAULY is automatic and does most of the cleaning for you.This will clean in-ground pools made of concrete, fiberglass, vinyl or tile.It works with most shapes but those with nooks will have to do some of those areas by hand.The system comes with the Krauly part, forty feet of hose, installation instructions and the necessary little parts to complete the hook up.The Krauly part consists of a round blue rubber bottom which has the vacuum part in the middle (the round blue part is wrinkly like Venetian blinds).This is held in place by rocker arms.In the middle of the arms is a piece that the hose connects to.The other end of the hose then connects to your skimmer.There is an automatic skimming valve and vacuum plate that allows you to do both at the same time so you don't have to stop skimming to let the KREEPY KRAULY do its job. The original set up takes about 15-30 minutes, less if you read and follow the instructions, but if your husband is like mine, they only resort to instructions when they can't figure it out.After you assemble all of the pieces, you hook the hose up to the KREEPY KRAULY and to the skimmer.It's simple!

The KREEPY KRAULY is weighted so it won't float to the top of the water.The suction portion allows it to go up the sides of the pool, so both bottom and sides are vacuumed.The biggest drawback is that the steps do not get vacuumed and will have to be done by hand; we also have a couple of seating areas that we have to do by hand.Sweeping of the pool about once a week will also help keep your pool sparkling clean.

The idea behind an automatic cleaner is great, but in reality there are a few flaws.The first is that we had to buy a filter that hooks into the hose about four feet from the skimmer to keep clogging to a minimum.That little item has helped tremendously and I highly recommend it.Another drawback is that the hose will become brittle and break after about six months of water and sun exposure.We have had to replace hose sections numerous times and finally got tired of piecing it together, so we purchased another forty feet to replace the entire thing.This is something that will have to be done about once every eighteen months.

Another problem is that this device makes a strange sucking noise while it cleans.Not a big deal for most people, but if you have imaginative children they associate that noise with a hungry monster determined to devour young swimmers.Yes, one of our friend's kids did scream and jump out of the pool insisting that the KREEPY KRAULY would eat her.So now we pull this out of the pool whenever people come over.

After four years, we've had to replace the hose and the flapper arms.Even with these added expenses, it is still well worth the $ 300 originally spent.Since we can purchases the parts to replace, buying a completely new system is not necessary.

Overall this is a great time saver for us.We still need to do a few things by hand, but those are minimum.The best part is that my pool is sparkling clean all the time, even when we're too busy to clean.

Goldline AQ-TROL-HP Aqua Trol Above Ground Chlorinator Review

Been using this product for about a month now and could not be happier with it. Hooks up easily and comes with all the instructions and hardware needed to get you started. There's even a phone number on the unit to call if you have questions about how to operate it. I have not needed to call, but it is reassuring to know that help is available.

I bought this as an upgrade to a Intex filter pump/salt system that had the pump and chlorine generator built into one unit. All I had to do was remove the salt cell from the Intex pump and attach this unit using a variety of PVC attachments(the Intex fittings are not standard sizes that can easily be mounted to normal PVC fittings) bought at the local hardware and a piece of 2x4 to mount it on. Then, plugged the pump into the AQ-TROL control unit and left it turned on. Now the pump runs only when the control unit allows it. I won't go into detail about how the timer on the Intex unit worked, but I will say that the new system is much more convenient and flexible.

I was a little unsure about purchasing it because there was not a lot of information about it or how it worked, but it's very simple to operate and works very well. Just attach the cell and flow monitor between your filter pump and the pool. Then plug the power cord from the pump into the control unit and set the timer on the control unit to run for what ever time of day and duration required by the pump to filter the entire pool. The control unit will then supply power to the pump according to the timer settings. Next, there is a dial to control how much chlorine is generated while the pump is running. You can set this anywhere from 0 - 100 percent depending on what is needed to keep the proper balance of free chlorine in the pool with the number of hours that the control unit is set to run. There is also a manual control to run the filter pump without the timer if you need to. This is a very short explanation just to give you an idea of how the unit works. The instructions that come with the unit go into much more detail, but I wanted to provide this for anyone who was wondering how this would fit into their current setup.

Pool Vacuum for Gunite Pools- Hayward Navigator Review

I have had this puppy in my pool for 7 years constant, I NEVER take it out, it runs 8 hours a day, 7 days week, 365 a year (I'm in Florida). Sure it needs regular parts, and the newer replacement parts from Hayward DO last longer, it's not a great wall climber if you let the part get worn, wings and shoes are at least a seasonal (about $30) replacement. Make sure you have good vacum as well, if you have trees around your pool, get a leaf basket. After an over night storm I have seen it clean a pool completly in 3 hours...and you know, that wall climbing is not such a bad thing, most stuff is on the bottom anyway. Sure it will not do steps and it will get hung up on ladders...I'm not sure what you expect...However, you can get a device that keeps it off ladders. I like this little feller, he works hard and well, I am just buying a new one for my home up north and ditching my expensive Polaris! (oh by the way, you can get a complete set of all moving parts, innards the lot for around $120)

Hayward 6000B Phantom Turbo Pressure Pool Cleaner Review

Stay away from this unit. It's rich with features and impressive looking, but expensive and poorly manufactured. I've owned one for over 2 years and it workedok for about a year only. In the last few months, it's been nothing but trouble just untangling it and replacing parts.The weakest link is the main hose that is designed as a configurable series of about 24" long plastic pipes interconnected via flexible elbow joints. Unless you're very careful untangling this thing when it wraps up tightly (at least once a week) the hard plastic nubs on the elbow joints will snap off as it gets very brittle over time. This just happened to me again last weekend and it will be my last time .... I'm going back to the Polaris.

Dirt Devil Rampage Robotic Pool Cleaner Review

I purchased the Dirt Devil Rampage for a pool approx 15' x 36' and have used it several times. It is quite light to handle, very easy to use and does a GREAT cleaning job. However before my purchase I wish I had known that:
(1) it gets "hung up" on my Hayward SPX-1048 drain covers (about 1.5" high). It becomes stuck and must be pulled off the drain cover in order to continue its work. This inhibits unsupervised cleaning and appears to disrupt the Robot's tracking of the areas it has cleaned. The solution recommended by Hayward Tech Solutions is to purchase Drain Covers (at approx $70 each). I need 2 and I am not impressed!!
(2) the Dirt Devil brand was a consideration in my purchase. I paid approx $980 for the Rampage. Upon receipt of the product I see much of the product's documentation is for the Aqua Vac Systems Tiger Shark pool robot which, I now discover, is identical to the Rampage but costs only $899. I cannot even find the Rampage product on Dirt Devils website. I feel ripped off having trusted the DD brand. I am really not clear on whose brand & product I have really purchased. I'd recommend you go with the Tiger Shark and save yourself the $80.

Dirt Devil Hydro-Vac In Ground Pool Cleaner Review

I've had the Hydro-Vac in use now for about 5 weeks; it is a replacement for a Kreepy Krauly.
So far it works well, better than the Kreepy for less than half the price (I got the $50 rebate), and there are no hose weights to mess with.However, I did adjust the position of the large ring or hoop to improve pool coverage.Also, I found that setting the hose length to less than the recommended length seems to reduce potential hose entanglement; it's set to reach the most distant end of the pool with just a small amount of slack. It seems to provide better overall coverage of the pool surface than did the Kreepy and does not get hung-up on the pool steps as much as the Kreepy did.
My only concern at this point is durability.It appears to be somewhat flimsy compared to the Kreepy but only time will tell.

Aquabot Turbo T2, Robotic Inground Pool Cleaner Review

Not only does the Aquabot keep the bottom, sides, and steps of the pool clean, it's fun to watch!It also removed the black scuff marks left by the previous owners.After 4 hours of operation the metal box housing the power supply gets very warm, but this is probably normal.I see one area for improvement and this would be to have a swivel type of attachment where the cord attaches to the vacuum.The cord does get very wrapped and tangled around itself, so I have to untangle it or reverse the cleaning pattern each day.However, the time it takes to do that is far less than the time it would take to vacuum and brush down the pool manually.I highly recommend the Aquabot over the smaller automatic cleaners because it's bigger, faster, has its own power supply that you just plug into an outlet, and it does a thorough cleaning job.

If you've got a pool and you've got children or neighbor children you need a pool alarm. This is expensive and doesn't work with my 16ft above ground pool. No matter how I adjust the filter outlet in the pool I cannot run the filter while this pool alarm is installed or it will eventually go off on its own. If you remove it when you run your pool filtration system it would work fine. I need to leave my filtration system on all the time and installing and removing this alarm constantly is prone to human error and forgetfulness which in a way gives one a false sense of security and in my opinion is dangerous.

I've had this pool for two summers, and I just love it as a place to soak in the sun and cool off. I opened it up on my brick patio, filled it with air using a portable pump that I had from my indoor air mattress, smoothed out the bottom, and began filling with water. Last year I often only filled the pool to a depth of about 4 inches so that I could lie on the bottom without water getting in my ears. This year, I figured out that my Spring Float could be used to float in the pool! Close your eyes and you could be in a huge pool on vacation!!

The pool holds about 350 gallons at its fullest. (Note: dimensions given are to the outside of the pool and do not indicate its volume.) I have to dump the pool every week because it attracts mosquito larvae and other floating things! I use a kitchen strainer to remove leaves in between refillings. The pool has a convenient drain at one corner. However, I also figured out how to use my garden hose to easily drain some of the water to a nearby tree. That helps me feel that the water is not wasted when I have to dump it.To clean it, I just quickly rub a small towel on all of the bottom and bottom rings, and then hose it out upside down and refill.

This year, the pool has developed a slow leak in the bottom ring. I'm not surprised because I stored it hanging over some equipment in my garage and I was sure the cat would have clawed it during the winter! It may have developed the leak when I filled it one cool morning and then the day warmed up quickly. Heat may have expanded the air and caused a leak in a seam. I don't know, but I suggest you fill it at the hottest part of the day, just to be safe.

By the way, the people in the pool in the picture must be from some tribe of miniature people, because I feel much larger than that in the pool! I feel like I take up most of the length of the pool. I think two teens or average-sized adults like me could sit at opposite corners and stretch out and visit.

Nitro Robotic Pool Cleaner Review

I was originally only looking at robots that could climb walls. I settled on a dolphin but when I learned that the pool place would have to order it I decided to keep shopping (I was looking for instant pool gratification). The person at another pool place recommended the nitro.

I wasn't all that price sensitive and told him I just wanted something that worked well. He had an $1100 Dolphin climber in stock (same one the first place tried to order for me) and also the nitro. He told me that the nitro was hands down superior which I found interesting because he was recommending the cheaper of his products.

The main issue is that the nitro doesn't climb but realistically it takes about 60 seconds to brush the sides of the pool so that it all falls to the bottom. This didn't turn out to be as much of an issue as I thought.

The carrier was a bit of a pain to put together (the parts aren't interchangeable so make sure you have things set up right before putting the caps on the axle).

As far as the actual robot (as opposed to its cart) there is no assembly. You just plug it in (while off) and throw it in the pool. I have a 9ft deep pool badly in need of a cleaning. It is so murky that you can't actually see the bottom yet.

The nitro gathered a tightly packed bad of sludge on its first 2hr run. I figured out how to clean it without reading the instructions. On run two it got about half as much stuff as run one (not surprising since I was scrubbing and filtering during run one. I'm currently on run three. It moves slowly enough that it doesn't disturb the bottom all that much and does a far better job than I would have patience to do. It is great to be able to filter/skim and vaccum as the same time. I'd definitely recommend this product. It works great and for $600 was almost half the cost of the dolphin climber which I'm now glad I didn't buy.

Intex LED Pool Wall Light Review

Bought this light with an intex easy set pool (18x48 round). Hard to believe how simple it is to set up and how bright it actually is at night. Once it gets dark, the whole pool actually appears to glow. You can see easily from one end to the other. The light output is comparable to any 50+ watt system out there. The best part about it is the fact that there are no electrical wires or connections under water. The side that goes in the water is sealed with magnets to help it hold on to the outer portion through the liner. If it does happen to come apart, the sealed portion in the water floats to the surface. Really nice! The LED should be long lasting also. Overall I am very satisfied with it. I got it on sale for about $49.99. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because it is still new and I don't know how long it will last (I'm new to Intex and am still unsure about quality).

I received my Roll-guard ladder 1 week ago.Assembling this ladder is not for the faint hearted or the unhandy.There are 22 parts.Many assembly steps require 6 hands and good balance.All assembly steps require a heavy rubber hammer and a sharp knife.The parts all had sharp bits of plastic left from the manufacturing process that had to be removed.Pay close attention to the parts that will contact your pool liner. My son and I received several cuts on our hands from the plastic parts.Most of the mating areas still had a thin layer of plastic covering then that had to be cut or drilled out before the parts would fit together.

To top it off, our ladder arrived without instructions or hardware.We had to look-up the instructions online.We contacted Confer imediately about the missing parts and still haven't gotten them.

The ladder feels very tippy when you climb it.If you have a 48 inch pool, you should know that this ladder is VERY high.The Tambor door moves very stiffly.You need 2 hands and a lot of strength to get it moving.My wife couldn't do it at first!We sprayed silicone spray in the track and that helped a little.Hopefully getting the hardware will help with these problems.

All in all, I would give Confer a B for design and a D for execution.

Dirt Devil In-Ground Automatic Pool Cleaner Review

I have had the dirt devil pool cleaner for almost a year now. I purhased this over kreepy krauly and others largely because of price and the rebate available late last year. I had a kreepy in the past, but I figured all of the cleaners of this type were the same. I was very wrong. This unit has several flaws:
1. it gets stuck quite often with no obstructions (ladders, steps, ...) causing it to hang. It gets stuck in corners and coming up the slope from the deep end.
2. It occasionally flips upside down and becomes seriously stuck.
3. Occasionally the flapper just quits working and it stays in one place until you use your finger to get the flapper moving again.
4. this unit has a very definate pattern and would never clean my entire pool. I have an mountain lake shaped pool.

The fatal flaw of this unit which caused me to pitch it was the rigid "spine" it has along it's underside. The unit became stuck in the crease between the bottom and the side of the pool and agitated there overnight and wore a hole in my liner. I woke up to find a 3 inch gash in the liner. The agitation wore a groove in the vermiculite in the bottom of the pool. The kreepy krauly has a flexible spine with plastic bearings to avoid just such a problem.

I will probably go back to kreepy krauly which is what i had at my old pool.

Don't be fooled by a bad review. I've had this system for 13 years and am just now ordering a replacement. This is an excellent pool cleaner. The only part of my pool it doesn't clean are the steps. I NEVER have to sweep my pool with a brush, just the steps, because the Kreepy reaches everything else. If you have a clean filter, the suction is very powerful and it sucks up leaves, debris, even microscopic stuff you can't see because it also vacuums and filters the water. The only time it has no suction is when the pool filters are dirty. Over the years I have had to replace the parts and hoses piecemeal but now the whole thing is tired and I'm ordering a new one. 13 years of NOT cleaning my pool by hand is proof enough this is a great system.

Hayward S166T Pro Series 16-Inch Top-Mount Sand Filter with Top-Mount Valve Review

I bought this filter around June 1 to replace another old sand filter. Because I was out of town for awhile I could not install this filter right away and it was about 2 weeks after it arrived I opened the box. This filter does NOT contain a base for the filter to sit on. Because the filter has a round bottom it can't stand on it's own without a base which should have been included in the box. Ever try to stand up an egg on it's end?

The manual in the box for the filter and the manual online at Haywards internet site for the same model numbers are not the same. There seams to be a production change with this filter and the base so that the base can be used on other models as well. Either way I was in the pool business for 7 years in the past and have never seen a filter that did not contain a base that sets it upright. A base for the filter is NOT an extra item. They are either already attached by glue/tape or have someway to mount the base to the filter. Without a base this filter is usless as you can't simply bury it in the ground. At current I'm trying to get a base from Hayward but they don't seem to want to help and there reply to my email was this... "The larger base only comes with the S166T92S system". Well as I replied back I'm not talking about a "Bigger" base. I'm talking about "ANY" base. So beware that the unit I received did NOT contain a base stand (also called a skirt) for the filter to sit on and my local pool place wanted $49.99 for the base which should have been included.

We have had it in place for about two months with a single false alarm due to very strong winds.I have forgot to turn the unit off before cleaning the pool and the first strong stroke of my broom set it off but the automatic pool sweep does not seem to effect it.

The outside and inside alarms are very loud.Installing the unit requires drilling in to the pool deck with a masonry drill. I would recommend this product.

The Polaris 360 is a very clever mechanical device that works great 20% of the time.Because it is made of cheap plastic parts that constantly break, it is more often under repair than in service.Having owned one for about three years now, I can say I've spent twice the original cost on replacement parts and service (even though I do most of the service myself).Hose life is 6 months, and $19 for a 6 foot replacement hose (my hose is 18 feet long).I've bought two of these Polaris 360's used on Craigs list for $100 each to cannibalize for parts (replacement parts are outrageously expensive).

Until the manufacturer improves the quality to the point that they are willing to offer a 5 year guarantee, I would avoid this product.In fact, I'd avoid the manufacturer, too.

With so many things to maintain for a pool already, the last thing I want to do is to maintain an automatic pool cleaner.If I have to replace belts, tracks, booster pumps, and so on, then I might as well spend that time with an old fashioned pole vacuum instead.Before I bought this T-Jet I had a tough time deciding between the Polaris series, T-Jet, and the Turbo T2 model.

I ended up buying the T-Jet because of the simplicity with so few moving parts that can break.I'm happy with the decision.The T-Jet cleans the pool crystal clear.But to get the best performance, first I had to make some adjustments to the setup out of the box.So here are some tips.

The settings on the T-Jet when it first arrives are for impressing you with the speed in which the water jets propel it across the pool - to maximize the water flow but not maximizing the cleaning potential.The changes I made were the following: 1. snap on the intake extender so that the suction port is closer to the pool surface, 2. slide the internal tab to narrow the intake slightly for more suction power, and 3. add two of the foam squares to the inside for more neutral bouyancy.

By increasing the bouyancy with the included foam pieces, the T-Jet more easily jets up the curve from deep to shallow.I also found that by increasing the lap time from 30s to 40-60s (max 90s) this gives it enough time to make the length of the pool (rather than just the width) before it reverses direction.

I read one review where someone said their T-Jet flipped upside down sometimes.I don't understand that because what I observed is that even when I push it around with my hand it wants to stay upright, and the floating power cord keeps vertical tension on it to keep it oriented correctly.I think that must have been user error.

Lately I just drop it in the pool once every few days and let it run all day long, or overnight.I was surprised how much dirt gets collected in the fine filter bag because the pool already looked clean but the filtering is really effective.I can run the main pump less so the DE filter doesn't have to work as much; I noticed that the PSI gauge doesn't increase as fast when I use the T-Jet.So it saves on electricity, since the T-Jet uses a fraction of the electricity as the main pump.

The only negative I found (and this is pretty minor compared to all the positives) is that the cord tends to get twisted up if I leave it in the pool for several days in a row.I have to remove it anyway to rinse out the filter bag.Then I untwist the cord.

I am happy that I bought this instead of the Turbo T2.I don't think the track models like the Turbo T2 can do anything better than this one, at least for my pool.I think those just have more moving parts to maintain.

Update 1/9/2010: I found out why people report sometimes that it stops climbing the wall.Those user-replaceable foam buoyancy squares on the bottom plate soak up water and wear out over time.Just replace them or add some more, takes 10 minutes.When mine wouldn't climb the wall as high anymore I inserted some more styrofoam squares from a shipping box.Now it climbs all the way up again.With this pool cleaner it is important to maintain the neutral buoyancy.

We got this little Aquabug last summer towards the end of the season and used it only a few times before we experienced leaks in our new liner. It was a hard pill to swallow but we had to face the facts.When the bug stalled in certain places around the pool, it was not just cleaning the liner; its hard plastic edges had dug into it causing small holes and massive water loss. The Kreepy Krauly 'Lil Shark is well made and easy to assemble and operate.It cleans the pool so so in the spots it goes over but, it misses a lot of places.We have an 18 ft above ground pool and it cannot cover the entire area in 4 hours time. The problem we have encountered is that it will stop moving, clean the same places over and over or, will get hung up on the ladder or just the pool wall. You have to periodically check on it and free it up or reposition it to get it going again. It doesn't handle large leaves or stuck on dirt very well either. We have had ours for about a month and I probably wouldn't purchase it again knowing how it performs. I wanted something to free up my time spent vacuuming the pool but, I still have to babysit the 'Lil Shark, (sigh).

I had high hopes from this ladder, but once installed is depressingly underwhelming.The steps are soft to the point of caving in when stepping on them and the ladder practically hugs the wall of the pool even though it's supposed to slant out some.We tried it both ways and both were substandard.On putting it together, there were parts that had a type of wood grain pattern on the plastic (well, one did) and the rest were solid plastic making it look umm... well, stupid.One of the connecting parts broke when we put it together and we had to just make duebecause we needed it that night and the hassle of getting one stupid screw connector wasn't worth the trouble.It's NOT worth the price, maybe 39.00.Maybe.

We were on a tight budget and had to go with a ladder less than what we wanted in order to just HAVE one, but seriously.Spend the extra money and get a SOLID PLASTIC frame.

However the seller experience we had was really good and the other item we bought from them was stellar.

I just love it! This vacuum works great in our above ground pool, keeps the ground/floor clean without me having to spend more than a minute. All I have to do is turn the pump on and off, this vacuum does the rest. I can now enjoy the pool when I find time without having to spend time cleaning it. I'm especially looking forward to using this when it gets too cold to swim. Now I can keep the pool clean without having to get into the cold water (we don't use a heater) The only slightly negative thing I have to say is, that the vacuum does get stoped by the pool stairs sometimes and the hoses can get tangled up occassionally, put all these are quick fixes....

I had another brand for many years .I had repaired it several times,but , finally the plastic body was going. It had many external parts.This Hayward D C 300 was totally encased and streamline.So I purchased it. First the directions are semi-useless.No direction on attaching the floor disc to the motor , finally I just pulled it over the end to attach hoping it would not tear. Then there is a weight to attach , that I understood but it is a mild help.Then a black thing to put someware on the line ?It is to turn left or right to increase or decrease flow .directions ask for 7 lbs. preasure the pump does 20 to 25 lbs. preasure .this toy is to correct that .Yes it is piss poor. Then 2 inserts to cut off water flow to vac.Does not explain where they go and they fit to nothing. Moving right along, I called Hayward and they said you have to call service durring working hours. So I went to a pool place , they are not thrilled to assist when you purchase on the net. but they sold me another valve that fits the line.I installed it and it works. OK it works like a rusty wheeled lawn mower. If it is ajusted to strong it hugs the pool floor and will not move. close the valve it moves at a snail pace.close it more it stops. I do not use catalogs because I hate having to returne things. I have had better sucess with the net , untill now.

I bought this pool to use as a labor/birth pool for my home birth last year. It was so comfy with the inflatable sides & bottom and the perfect depth for being able to really sink down into the water. It was easy to inflate & fill. Big enough for me to change positions and get comfortable in (as comfortable as one can be in labor) yet small enough to fit in my living room. I didn't end up giving birth in the water, but the pool has not gone to waste. My 3 year old enjoyed playing in it last summer & it was big enough for my husband & I to get in with her. Very sturdy & we will definitely be using it again this summer!

Purchased for $[...] including shipping. Was a bit unsure at first about the quality/durability at this price. It is now set up and in use and all my concerns were unfounded. This is a relatively new pool design and it is really ingenious. Assembly is straightforward, instructions quite clear, no missing parts and the fit and finish were excellent. Really exceeded my expectation honestly. Best for a family with kids who want to get a fairly large pool up very quickly that should last 5 - 10 years with proper care. Everything needed is included in this package and the pump, filter and chorine generator are adequate for the pool size. The whole pool is assembled with not bolts or screws. You will need blocks to level with the ground for each leg and this can take a couple of hours to do. I would suggest 2 2x6x16" boards side by side rather than patio blocks. Cheaper, more durable, easier to set and easier on the vinyl retainers. At this price I would really be surprised if anyone would be disappointed unless they just didn't understand the different types of pools. I am updating this review after owning the pool for two seasons. I noticed that people are complaining about difficulty taking the pool down for the winter. The simple solution is don't!!! There is no reason to take it down. Just make sure you reomoved the valves and fittings from the side of liner, remove the interior plugs (leave the exerior caps on), and cover it. This will drain the pool a few inches but you just fill it up in the Spring. Whatever wear and tear you think you are saving by trearing it down for the Winter is misguided. The pool can easily withstand the cold weather is closed as indicated above. It is much harder on the liner and frame to take it down with all the prying it off the frame (which would get scratched and eventually rust then) and dragging it around. I hope this helps someone avoid a lot of hard, discouraging work for nothing. I would also strongly suggest getting a sand filter for the pool too. It will save you a lot of time and trouble keeping it clean. Another trick it to make a "bottom drain" by using a 3x3x2" or 3x3x1 1/2" PVC tee with PVC drain grates glued into each 3" end and a hoe barb fitting in the small hole. You can then connect this to the inlet and pull water from the bottom which works better for opening the pool. Once it is clear you can probably just stick with the skimmer for the season.

I Have owned more expensive units costing 1000-1400. I took my chance on this one. At first the unit would not climb, then it just stopped working. I must say at first I was disappointed, soI returned it to the Manufacturer for a replacement. The new one worked fantastic! It climbs walls doesn't scrub the water line but will clean up to it. That is not a problem for me, as non of the other models did a great at this. It does a great job on the bottom and cleans the deep end as well as the shallow end. Will not climb stairs, but don't get hung up on that, none of the previous models did a good job at that either.

The unit is able to go up the steep grade in my pool were other models I have owned would fall back down to the deep end. In addition, it has a great feature: if it senses that it is stuck- like on the pickup drains on the bottom, it will pop a wheely and navigate out of its stuck position. The more expensive units I had owned would get stuck and I would have to pull them off the main suction drain.

The unit is light and easy to pickup out of the water. The filter design is very easy to remove and clean and a breeze to put back on. I found that the Dolphin was the most difficult and the hayward cartridge design was not as effective as the bag type.

Another plus is the entire unit is modular: meaning that you can buy a replacement motor or brush and replace them yourself. Once it goes out of warranty this feature will be a benifit.

I would recommend this unit to anyone that is looking for the best bang for the buck.plus it comes with a Caddy...

Several years back we had our pool redone, and my wife had a new Hayward pump and filter installed. While the filter worked well, the pump never seemed to move the pool cleaner systems around the pool right. We tried a few different systems the Kreepy Krawley, the Barracuda etc, and I finally thought that I should get the Hayward and that might work better with the Hayward pump? It was the best at cleaning the pool floor, but was the worst yet with the walls. Finally this summer, the pump completely siezed up and after several tries at repairs, I gave up and decided to by a new pump. I considered just getting a new motor, but I had a thought, that "what If the pump is just the wrong one?"

I have a pretty large pool for a back yard pool, and the max flow pump was a 3/4 hp which seemed like not enough, so after considering volume and distance, I decided on the Super Pump 1 1/2 hp. It was a very simple switch, just two wires,(and a ground wire of course) and the plumbing was an exact match.

Now my Hayward pool vac system literally flies around the pool, and does the work in much less than half the time it would have taken before and goes into every inch of the surface sides and bottom.

I wish I would have bought it sooner.

I bought the Aquabot T4 about 1 year ago after brushing the pool for days to clean up the algae.It was an expensive purchase and my wife thought I got another expensive toy.After we used it for a year (but left it off during the winter), my wife said another great purchase/choice from me!Because we left the robot turned off during winter and cover the pool, we found the pool was filled with green algae again and the water was so muddy.So I turn on the Aquabot for a 5 hour run for the last 3 days, the pool is back to crystal clear.It does take some work to clean the bag after each run to make it effective. But other than that, it is a great machine and save my back and shoulder from pain because of the scrubing and brushing.

I guess the only drawback is now I have less and less exercise because of the robot taking care of the pool brushing! :)

Having maintained a large in-ground plunge for the better part of a decade, however, I can confirm unequivocally that the Swimming-Pool Establishment employs very few rocket scientists.The 380 system doesn't perform as well as one might hope and with a very limited warranty is expensive and hard to repair; while your friendly local service establishment might not provide much help in this respect.

In the first place, the path of the Vac-Sweep unit isn't sufficiently random, following a somewhat repetitious path and often leaving a single large patch of debris on the bottom.This problem can be dealt with by everyday shifting the position of the thrust jet, a nuisance at best; while there doesn't seem to be an optimum position for best coverage.

For example, my steps are at the shallow end of the pool.But if I set the jet to a high position in order to encourage climbing, the Sweep will spend almost all its time at the deep end.Polaris would do well to emulate other makes of pool sweepers which include a mechanism to slowly rotate this jet and thereby encourage a less predictable route.

Furthermore owing to its geometry being intended more for styling than performance, it is reluctant to climb steps and platforms, leaving their surfaces for its owner to sweep manually-every day just before your afternoon splash. The main problem seems to be the geometry of the frame, bugling out in front of the wheels, especially the single-side wheel.Thus when it encounters a curved surface such as the edge of a platform or step, it can't climb because the two wheels can't engage the obstacle simultaneously.Instead it makes repeated thrusts like the adolescent puppy attempting to hump your pantleg, without however gaining any elevation, until finally the backup valve pulls it away. Clearly the Vac-Sweep should have been built with four wheels instead of three, the two front ones projecting well below and in front of the frame.Also it might have helped if the unit had been made more narrow in width so as to better navigate the steps.

You can deal with the foregoing problem by adding a second tire to the single-side wheel, so as to project a fraction of an inch beyond the front, thereby improving the chance of traction.But you will have first to stretch the new tire, a requirement entailing Herculean effort.Also it helps if you acquire two additional feed-hose floats, mounting them as near as feasible to the Sweep so as to enhance buoyancy.More than one or two floats so situated, however, significantly diminish its traction when the Sweep is at the bottom.

Performance may be improved somewhat by removing the wall-fitting pressure restrictor, thereby increasing the power and range of the Sweep (Incidentally, this mod may increase wheel speed beyond the specified 28 rpm, which we suppose could shorten the life of the system). In addition, when I replaced the booster pump, the new one proved noticeably more powerful.

Used without restrictor, however, increased gyration of the backup system can occasionally so tangle up your feed hose as to temporarily disable the entire system until you untangle it.So if you also encounter this result, I suggest you think twice about letting it run during a weekend getaway.

Even with the increased thrust, though, the Sweep may not reach the far end of your pool because it can't overcome a loop or two in the feed hose. This could be due to reduced traction as suggested above, exacerbated by the float (its bouyancy discouraging it from being nudged below the surface and the effect of friction of its bulge above the surface); to reduced flow owing to aging of the motorpump, or even something as subtle as the season; for it isn't entirely unreasonable to guess that if you use your system in the winter as I do, the reduced water temperature stiffens the hose beyond its ability to untangle.

My contact with the Polaris folk suggests they had been working on a scheme to eliminate the floats but apparently they were unsuccessful because that was several years ago and I haven't heard from them since.

The Sweep itself is also covered by a 12-year guarantee.But after 2 years when it begins to wear out, you're chagrined to learn that the warranty covers neither internal parts nor labor.You will not enjoy replacing the belts.

A minor annoyance with the filter bag:The Velcro means by which the bag is opened soon becomes hopelessly entangled with debris and eventually won't stay closed.Therefore never open it.After just a few attempts you will find it fairly easy to empty by shaking out its contents.

Unless you're really determined and just plain good at it, you'll find the sweeper system difficult to repair as many parts don't fit together right or can easily be interchanged unintentionally.For instance there are at least a dozen permutations and combinations of such ways in which the parts of your auxiliary booster pump can be misassembled, not just by amateurs like you and me but even by the trained technician during a repair job.

The pump subassembly fails by throwing water from its top seal.(Even if you're able to dismount it yourself, the cost of repair is well over $100 and so you might resolve to learn how to do it yourself).The motor is water-cooled through the motor axle so if a slight amount of air enters the system (for example, if the pump is reassembled incorrectly, if water level drops below skimmer port, or if a small crack should develop in the plumbing), or you experience unusually high air temperature on a still day (which we do experience here in California's High Desert), it quickly overheats, shortening if not ending its life, at a replacement cost over $300.

So at risk of oxidization, I've installed a supplementary cooling system comprising weeper-soaker hose wrapped around the housing and fed under pressure.However, don't do this yourself if you're concerned that its corrosive effects might void your warranty.But if you're interested, I am dalehileman@verizon.net and I'd be glad to elucidate in more detail.

Owing to the complexity of this auxiliary system, including an elaborate Sweep full of small parts, the booster pump with its overtemperature breaker, pressure restrictors, an overpressure relief valve, 70 ft. of tubing, and an intricate backup valve containing dozens of gears, its susceptibility to malfunction is so great that the unit cannot properly be tested by your friendly local repair facility unless they have an entire pool complex on their premises.Hence when you get it back, your repaired motorpump may still not work.

As I said, though, I can't compare its performance and reliability to that of other makes, while some users post Internet forum reports of great satisfaction and long life from the Polaris 380 System.

Intex Deluxe 18-Foot Round Pool Cover Review

This cover is a crap, the "Deluxe" part is a marketing gimmick. I bought my first one about 3 years ago and it didn't lasted a year, because the cover started to fall a part in pieces every time we remove it to use the pool or do maintenance. Basically the material can't handle UV rays more that a year and for the price it should at least last 3 years.

Forget about calling Intex for warranty they will kick you to the curve and tell you that there is nothing they can do, which ridiculous because this is clearly a manufacture issue on the quality of the products, this is a product that expected to be on the outdoor element all year and is suppose to handle it.

Is actually a shame because I do like the straps that are use to hold the Cover in place and it fits perfect on the pool, but the quality of the cover material is terrible.

This pool is great!Setup was relatively easy but you do need a helping hand (my 13 y.o. helped me) and there are some things you should be aware of before you purchase it.

1. If you purchase the 18' X 9' X 52" pool with saltwater filter, you'll need 115 pounds of salt which cost me $30.00 at a local pool supply store.I bought 4 bags (each bag weighed 40 pounds) and used slightly less than 3 to start the system.You'll need to add more salt occasionally (30 pounds or so) when the code on the filter tells you to do so.

2.5-6 feet of free space is required around the perimeter of the pool.(I didn't have this space available and had to change my desired location for the pool.)This is because the U-shaped metal supports, attached to the top rail, lay flat on the ground outwardly during setup.Then you pick the top rail off the ground which makes the U-shaped supports slide into place.This starts holding the pool up and in place.Your helper then attaches the pool liner to the bottom of each support.I hope this makes sense.You definitely need that extra space around the pool!

3.Your area should be very level.Take the time to clear rocks that could puncture the liner and to prep the area well.I think the best place for the pool would be on level cement.

Pentair K60400 Kreepy Krauly Kruiser Automatic In-Ground Pool Cleaner, Blue Review

After reading a number of reviews on many different competing varieties of pool cleaner, I thought I'd give this one a try. The reviews for products made by Pentair generally seemed better than those for the competition's products, and when I was younger my family had a single Kreepy Krauly that was around as far back as I can remember. As for why I chose this model over the Kreepy Krauly Classic, I honestly can't really say. I can't find much information on the Pentair website regarding which of their suction-side cleaners is the "best" model, so I kind of took a guess. Price doesn't even help much, since I've found that some places charge more for the Classic, and some charge more for the Kruiser.

One thing that I did notice in the reviews for the Classic is that a number of people have complained about having to replace several parts every year. The good thing about the Kruiser is that there are really only a couple of things that look like they'll need eventual replacement -- two pieces that touch the pool surface (eventually they will wear down and need to be replaced when the 'tread pattern' disappears), and maybe the flapper since it's a moving part, although looking at it I'd be surprised if anything happened to it since it's tucked away and pretty sturdy.

The Kruiser comes with a LOT of stuff. I was surprised at how thorough the company is when including parts. In addition to the cleaner head, the rubber vacuum seal/sweeper disc thingy, and the hoses, you'll also get a couple of hose weights and a bag full of extra goodies.

The cleaner head is already assembled. All you have to do is slip on the big blue rubber disc and attach the hoses. That's it, your pool cleaner has been completed! After that, you can add hose weights to the hose, depending on how deep your pool is.They help to counter the buoyancy of the hose in deep water.

And then there's the bag full of extra parts. If you have a vacuum port in your pool but don't have a vac-loc safety valve on it, don't worry because they included one. Don't have any eyeball diverters on your return ports, or they don't work as well as you want?Don't worry, they included a couple of replacements for you. Need an elbow joint for some reason even though it's never mentioned in the manual and I can't figure out what it might be needed for?Well it's in the bag. There's also some other fittings and an adjustable suction valve for the skimmer.There's even a suction-measuring tool that you can use to determine if you need to make adjustments.

The fun part comes from making the adjustments.I'm pretty sure that at least 75% of the bad reviews of any pool cleaner are related to user error in some way. I feel this way because the amount of time required to get this one working perfectly was not trivial.And that's not an issue with the cleaner itself -- it's just the nature of the beast.And someone who is impatient or doesn't understand that adjustment is required... well they're not going to be too happy. So here's a brief description of what you may need to do so you're aware of it.Regardless of the model of suction-side cleaner you go with, you will probably need to do some of this.

Initial Installation:If you have a dedicated vacuum port, just plug it in there. Optionally, you can plug a speed adjustment valve into the skimmer. More on that later. That's it for installation.If you don't have a vacuum port, you can plug it directly into the skimmer, again optionally adding the adjustment valve.

Return Ports: If you're not replacing an existing cleaner (meaning if, like me, you were previously using just the skimmer and main drain), chances are your return jets are pointing more or less toward the surface. That increases the movement on the surface and helps the skimmer do its job better. With a pool cleaner, they should be pointed more downward because jets pointed toward the surface tend to interfere with hose, potentially pushing it away from areas that need cleaning.After your initial adjustment, you may need to dial them in a little more if you see that the vacuum is still favoring one part of the pool.Before I did this, my cleaner absolutely refused to enter the shallow half of my pool under any circumstances.After the adjustment it was able to go anywhere.

Hose Weight(s): It's possible that you will need to move the hose weight toward or away from the vacuum head in order to get the ideal amount of buoyancy.It will also help the vacuum to stay on walls without falling off and keep the head from tilting back too far in shallow areas, causing it to lose suction.The best place for the weight will depend on the depth and shape of your pool, but for me it was about 6 inches behind the head.

Hose Length: The manual states that you'll want a hose that it at least the longest length it will ever have to travel, plus one hose length. However, depending on your pool's shape, it may be beneficial to add another segment beyond that, if you find that not all areas are getting cleaned. This seems to be another one of those "mess with it until you find something that works, even if you're not sure why" adjustments.

Suction (no vacuum port): I have a vacuum port in my pool, but I imagine that if I didn't there would just be the one intake valve by the pump that splits between the main drain and the skimmer. In this case you'll want to turn that valve to shut off the main drain entirely. You'll then want to install the included speed adjustment valve into the skimmer and plug the hose into that.Turning the knob on the adjustment valve as indicated will increase or decrease the amount of suction going to the vacuum. Too much suction will affect the vacuum's ability to travel a random pattern, and not enough will be just plain ineffective, causing it to fall off of walls or have trouble staying adhered to the pool floor. If there is still too much suction after the adjustment valve has been turned all the way down, you can turn on the main drain *slightly*, but you have to be careful that it's not strong enough to cause the vacuum to get stuck when it travels over the drain.

Suction (with vacuum port): This setup will probably have two intake valves by the pump.You'll want to shut off the main drain completely, while adjusting the skimmer and vacuum port to give the skimmer as much power as possible without taking too much from the vacuum. Personally, I just started at the halfway mark, giving each 50% of the power. Then I added more power to the vacuum in small increments until it was operating perfectly, while still leaving some power for the skimmer to work. The instruction manual suggests that you install the adjustment valve, but in my case it interfered slightly with the skimmer basket and was completely unnecessary anyway, since the same adjustment can be made by using the intake valves at the pump.

After some time spent on getting it up and running correctly, I have a pool cleaner that works beautifully. I highly recommend it. Just be sure to spend enough time to set it up correctly, and don't expect it to work immediately with no changes!

Started messing with the setup a little again, after I noticed that sometimes the front of the sweeper loses contact with the ground when moving from the deep end to the shallow end of the pool (my pool has a steep transition).Removing the hose weight fixed the problem.Now I can say for sure that 6-7 foot deep pools do not need a hose weight to hold suction at the deep end.

Oh, and it's still working great! I've also added a couple of photos of it, just because.

Hayward CL220 Off-Line Automatic Pool/Spa Chemical Feeder Review

We purchased this as a replacement to the exact model we had attached to our pool. We purchased our home a few years ago and it has an existing in ground pool and had this chlorinator attached to it. I believe it just failed due to exposure and probably age. We live in the Pacific NW and we have very wet weather most of the year, and since this is primarily made of plastic, it just didn't fare too well. We already had our lines plumbed in the filtration system, so it was a snap to install, and all of the parts and instructions come with it (which I don't think is mentioned in the ad on Amazon). This was the best price I could find on this chlorinator and I wanted to get the same kind since the other one did such a great job of keeping our pool sanitized. We have a fairly large pool (about 27,000 gal). At times we needed to turn up the heat on algae, etc., the dial was a snap...just open it up full blast. This is a very reliable product. I wasn't willing to pay about the same price for a no-name product. Get it, you won't be sorry!

I've read the mixed reviews and wanted to share my experience with Rover. This is our second season with him, and I don't know what I would do with Rover. We bought him last year, first time pool/house owners and the pool was filled with algae and tons of stuff. Rover worked overtime, and got Everything out. Yes, his bag filled up, but the condition to the pool was not so good. We used him regularly and cleaned him after each use, following directions. We use to have a DE filter which broke and spit the powder all out in the pool.... yup Rover cleaned it all up for us. In the fall we had acorns all in the pool... yup again Rover picked up the big leaves and all the acorns, and I mean he had like 50 of them in his bag at a single time. It looked so funny emptying them out! But, he got the job done, with the solar cover even on top of the pool he works under it.

I find it great that you can just drop him in, set him to go, and come back in 2 hours and all done.... sooo easy! This year we opened our pool and once again Rover to the rescue for tree leaves and sticks and such from whatever storms we have had and normal debrie that falls into the pool. We have an above ground pool 18". His bag and the unit itself are in perfect condition. We had no problems with him at all, and again don't know what we would do with out one. If he ever broke I would not hesitate to buy again.

The Pool Rover is the third and definitely the last automatic vacuum I will ever own.I previously owned the Aqua Critter by Hayward and the Great White by StaRite.The other 2 never completely cleaned my pool and I always ended up having to manually vacuum all the spots they missed. The other draw back to these 2 vacs is that they have to be hooked up to your skimmer to work and because of that the skimmer obviously is out of use during the entire vacuuming time.They also end up clogging your filter with dirt and leaves which forces you to have clean your filter very frequently.

The Pool Rover works independently of your filter and skimmer.It comes with a small electrical box that you plug in and gets its power from that. It has a cloth filter bag that collects all the dirt and debris.The bag is reuseable, I have had mine for 3 years now and it is still like new.All you have to do is remove the bag and rinse it out with your garden hose.A few times a year I throw the bag into my washing machine and give it a good cleaning. The cleaner the bag is, the faster the Pool Rover will work.It will clean my entire pool completely and spotlessly in about an hour.It doesn't miss any spots, doesn't tie up my skimmer or clog up my filter.What more could you possibly want in an automatic pool vac?

After receiveing the $85 quote to repair my aging Polaris cleaner I knew it was time for a new one.With all the incentives on the 380 or 3900 I was going to go with the 380 which was actually cheaper (after incentives) than the 280 but I started asking around - mostly pool professionals - and all (8 for 8) recommeneded the 280 even if the price were higher.

We are happy with the purchase and I was able to save over $100 by buying off Amazon vs. any retail store.There were a few other online sites where it was $15-$20 cheaper but didn't have the reputation or # of stars.

I bought this after my Hayward Navigator died, mainly because it cost half as much and it was the least expensive in-ground cleaner that people seem to be happy with from what I can see on the Internet.After using it I found that it is really a great cleaner.It seems to be especially resistant to jamming compared to the Navigator, which would get small pebbles or twigs caught in it's turbine.

It comes with some nice translucent hose sections which seem more flexible than what I get a the pool store.It also has an adapter for a dedicated cleaner port (if you have one) a telepole attachment so that it can be used manually and a flow gauge.

It does clean the shallow end of my pool and seems especially good at scrubbing the walls.It does occasionally get stuck on the pool light (of all places)

The manual does not say that it is not designed to clean the shallow end.It does say that it will spend most of it's time is the deep end, but that is normal for non-robotic cleaners.

I wouldn't trade it for a new Navigator even though they cost twice as much.

I have had many of these suction side Pool Vacuums in the past 15 years. Out of all of them this one is easy to maintain and seems to be made of robust materials. It does not get stuck on ladders and most of all it doesn't get leaves caught in the inlet causing it to stall. I have not had to pull it up to clear the inlet for any reason yet. The in line regulator allows me to hook it up directly to a secondary suction line I installed for easy hookup and storage. I can turn on the valve to full flow and the unit runs consistantly. It comes with everything you will need to hook up to the pool side strainer. There is a diverter that comes with it to prevent the return water from pushing the hose around, but I have not had to use it. It seems to get everywhere without having to divert the return water at all. But you have it if you choose to use it.

Hayward 700 Diver Dave Above-Ground Automatic Pool Cleaner Review

I can't knock Diver Dave for not working with my Intex Above Ground Pool w/Saltwater Pump.His construction seems solid and it's a great concept.However, I could find no information on how well it would work with an Intex Above Ground pool with Saltwater Filter, so posting this review to save others from the time and difficulties.

I would not recommend this with an Intex Above Ground pool system. I would guess it works wonderfully with a pool with a larger pump and true skimmer (based on other reviews), but it doesn't do much for the Intex Pools (in side-wall inlet pump attachment).

I had some minor algea on the bottom of the pool, which stirred up easily if lightly touched. Dave couldn't put a dent into it. Three issues: 1) The attachment to the skimmer means pulling apart the existing skimmer from the side wall and using the cone adapter.It does not fit well and is very cumbersome to keep removing and reinstalling to run the surface skimmer at all. 2) The suction "seems" sufficient, but Dave won't keep his nose down. I believe the depth of the pool doesn't provide enough "upward" hose length and as he travels he tips away from the the bottom and the direction of travel. This could also be due to insufficient suction. 3) No brushes on the bottom. I don't have debris, but fine particles and without brushes, it was still sitting there even if he passed the same section multiple times, nothing to stir it up so to speak.

While the construction and concept seems great, he's probably better suited for pools with true skimmers, deeper water and larger pumps for more suction. Dave went back.

Had a 2 1/2 horse power pump from Rec. Warehouse would only put out 10-12 psi and was very noise. Installedthis Hayward SP1580X15 Power-Flo LX Series Pump 1-1/2 Horse Power. Putting out 15psi and very little noise from pump. Only draw back is it only has one speed HIGH. Getting ready to open pool up next week. Time will tell how well it works. I believe for the money you can not beat it, Rec. Warehouse wanted over $300. The pressure coming out of the return hose is great. Hope this helps you!

Hayward 900 Wanda the Whale Above-Ground Automatic Pool Cleaner Review

I have a fiberglass pool, so cleaners designed for vinyl bottoms really work better for me than those for "cement ponds." And the price was right.

However, this item is in the "Toys" category and that is TERRIBLE. This pool cleaner works off of the vacuum created by your pool pump/filter. The cleaner is made more efficient by the use of two venturi intakes (the smallest one is removable). With only about a half-square-inch intake, the suction on the bottom of this cleaner is ferocious. And instead of Wanda the Whale, they should have dubbed it Sarah the Shark.

DO NOT let children into the pool when this device is operating - or simple-minded adults for that matter. Get a toe stuck in the intake when Wanda runs over your foot and you might find yourself pulling it out of the filter before heading to the ER to see if they can re-attach it. And God help the curious adolescent boy who has the pool to himself....

Hayward is quite clear about the dangers of this product and the narrow operating environment, but making the thing cute and cuddly and allowing it to be categorized as a toy seems to be a massive product liability exposure.

Warnings aside, this is a great auto pool cleaner at a really great price. You may need to cut out the venturi intake to match up better with your pump pressure and to allow it to clean your pool in a more systematic way, but you'll be impressed with what the little thing can accomplish in a half-day or so.

Highly-recommended pool-cleaning TOOL! Highly-discouraged as a "toy" using any criteria.

UPDATE (13 Apr 2010): The Wanda the Whale cleaner comes with soft vinyl "feet" that allow it to move around a pool without damaging a liner. To use it in a fiberglass or cement pool, these feet should be replaced with cork feet that will provide a better grip, and wear longer than the standard vinyl feet. These feet can be ordered from Hayward but are available at any decent pool supply store that sells Hayward products. If you have this device - or plan to buy it - and will use it in a fiberglass or cement pool, be sure to replace the four "feet" to get the best performance of this unit.
With the proper cork feet, this wonderful little cleaner does a fabulous job keeping my fiberglass pool sparkling clean (it even cleans the side up to three feet from the bottom) - at a price that is dramatically less than typical automatic pool cleaners.
